Burj Dubai (”Dubai Tower”)[from my blog]

Burj Dubai (”Dubai Tower”) is a supertall skyscraper under construction in the Business Bay district of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the tallest man-made structure ever built, despite being incomplete. Construction began on September 21, 2004 and is expected to be completed and ready for occupation in September 2009.

The building is part of the 2 km2 (0.8 sq mi) development called “Downtown Dubai”, at the “First Interchange” (aka “Defence Roundabout”) along Sheikh Zayed Road at Doha Street. The tower’s architect is Adrian Smith who worked with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) until 2006. The architecture and engineering firm SOM is in charge of the project. The primary builders are Samsung Engineering & Construction and Besix along with Arabtec. Turner Construction Company was chosen as the construction manager.

The total budget for the Burj Dubai project is about US$4.1 billion and for the entire new ‘Downtown Dubai’, US$20 billion. Mohamed Ali Alabbar, the CEO of Emaar Properties, speaking at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat 8th World Congress, said that the price of office space at Burj Dubai had reached $4,000 per sq ft (over $43,000 per sq m) and that the Armani Residences, also in Burj Dubai, were selling for $3,500 per sq ft (over $37,500 per sq m).

The Meaning and Origins of Halloween Symbols(Oct 31st) | Hot Tokyo

Along with the celebration of Halloween itself, the traditional Halloween symbols (witches, black cats, pumpkins, ghosts, candles, masks, etc.), found their way to the U.S. during the late 1800s. In 1848, the potato famine sent millions of Irish immigrants streaming into America, bringing with them a new culture and customs. In the manner of their Celtic ancestors, they celebrated Halloween, calling it Oidche Shamhna (’Night of Samhain’), and kept up the traditional observances associated with it.

Hey,just enjoy halloween 2008.

About Halloween 2008

Halloween is a holiday celebrated on October 31. By tradition, and I really like pumpkin carving stencils, Halloween begins after sunset. Long ago, people believed that witches gathered together and ghosts roamed the world on Halloween. Today, most people no longer believe in ghosts and witches. But these supernatural beings are still a part of Halloween.

The colors black and orange are also a part of Halloween. Black is a symbol for night and orange is the color of pumpkins. A jack-o’-lantern is a hollowed-out pumpkin with a face carved on one side. Candles are usually placed inside, giving the face a spooky glow.

The many faces of love | Hot Tokyo

Love…what is love?A lot of people shared their views to what love really is,or at least what love is in their eyes.Perhaps love is just an illusion.A strong illusion, especially for a purpose of love.Is love an answer?Love can be wonderful ,special, omplicated,a distress,a gift,a curse,a tragedy, and most of all,an experience.

Love is a mysterious and a complicated force. What do a person mean when they say they love someone?Love is many different things. Each of us have our own undstanding of love is,and most of the time we base our definitions from feelings and experiences. The book defines love in many ways.”It’s a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personer ties.”It can be an affection and tenderness felt by lovers.Love is the object of attachment, devotion,or admiration.

16th of the 18 races will decide this year’s world championship

This weekend Formula One racing returns to the revamped Fuji International Speedway near Gotemba, in the shadow of Mount Fuji, for the 16th of the 18 races that will decide this year’s world championship.we like tokyo hot city topics.

And the title battle between McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari’s Felipe Massa will get even hotter as the Brazilian seeks to claw back some of the seven-point advantage the Englishman opened up at the Singapore Grand Prix.

“Seven points to make up in three races?” Massa asks. “That can be a lot or it can be a little. We have the potential to do well, as we saw in Singapore and we will give it our best shot. We mustn’t give up and I’m sure we won’t.”

Yes!we would like to say this is the exciting one beside the 2008 tokyo game show.

Ferrari will revert to a traditional lollipop system for their pit stops, after the debacle in which Massa lost the race in Singapore during his first refuelling stop.

Hamilton remains highly upbeat about his own chances of increasing his lead, and believes the MP4-23 will be very competitive on the track on which he won in such style in the rain last year when the race transferred from Suzuka.

Hamilton says he learned something while trapped behind David Coulthard’s Red Bull in Singapore. “There was less pressure to achieve a victory because of the unusual circumstances, which meant I was actually able to start thinking of the world championship. I hate driving for points, but I think we can all see the benefit of that approach at the moment.

“I love Japan and hotels. Last year might have been difficult because of the wet weather and the poor visibility, but I actually really enjoyed that weekend. The Japanese fans are some of my favourite in the world: so passionate, but really polite, charming and respectful. As for the race, one of the questions I get asked most is whether I prefer to drive in the rain: my answer is always the same, I’ll race in the wet or dry, I don’t mind.

“But it’s always easier for us drivers to race in the dry; I’d always prefer a dry race. This weekend, I’ll be hoping for dry weather for another reason - I want the fans at the track to have the best weekend possible and to enjoy the atmosphere of one of the season’s best races.”

The race will also be crucially important for Toyota and Honda.

"Singapore was a good race for me and I was pleased to score five points but we still lost ground in the constructors' championship so we want to hit back immediately and that means scoring plenty of points in the Japanese Grand Prix,” says the former’s Timo Glock who, with team mate Jarno Trulli, will be battling Singapore-winning Renault for fourth place overall. “This will be my first visit to Fuji Speedway and I am looking forward to it, especially as I am a Toyota driver and I'm sure we will get a lot of support.”

Once again, Jenson Button took part in the annual Tokyo Motorsports Festival in Odaiba last weekend to demonstrate a Honda RA108. "The Japanese Grand Prix is always a special weekend for the team as our second home race of the season,” the Englishman says. “Racing for a Japanese team, we always have fantastic support and the fans are so enthusiastic that it makes for a great atmosphere. For me, the true home of the Japanese Grand Prix is Suzuka, which is just one of the best circuits in the world, and I can't wait to return there next year. However I did enjoy driving at the Fuji Speedway last year and the circuit has a nice mix of twisty corners and the high-speed pit straight. A lot of the corners have a very late apex, which is quite unusual.”

Fuji demands similar medium downforce levels to Spa-Francorchamps, and has the longest straight in Formula One racing - 1.5 kilometres past the pits. That inevitably necessitates a compromise on set-up: the need for low downforce and minimal drag on the straight versus the need for sufficient downforce to deal with the twisty and tight sections of the track with their predominantly first and second gear corners.

Oversteer is a common sight, wet or dry, and the car that behaves predictably through the numerous direction and camber changes around the lap will be the quickest. Unpredictable weather is also another factor at Fuji, as proved to be the case last year. Bridgestone will bring plenty of standard wet and extreme wet-weather tyres, as well as their medium compound ‘prime’ dry tyre and the softer compound ‘option’. These will have special green grooves to mark Bridgestone’s support of the FIA’s Make Cars Green campaign.

something about sarah palin

When Republican presidential nominee John McCain announced Sarah Palin as his choice for vice-president, the media riveted on Palin and what she represents. It’s no wonder: The high-energy Alaskan Governor means many things to many people.Thouth I like sarah palin hot pics,It was right!

To working mothers, she represents the possibility of a woman holding a job while raising a family. To some feminists, she embodies an advancement in women’s rights. But more fundamentally, Palin has become a lighting rod for voters through out US by appealing to social conservatives on key ideological issues.

What strain of social conservatism is Palin channeling? Like many other western states, Alaska embraces the values of a rugged wilderness – a land with relatively few people, where guns and hunting are routine parts of life and where social interactions revolve around shared community and church activities.

Voters who live in small towns tend to live in relative homogenous communities. They feel threatened by the nontraditional lifestyles they see portrayed on television. They may worry more about the preservation of “family values” than about policy issues related to economics or foreign affairs.

The buzzword “family values” means different things to different people. But a politician who advocates “family values” will likely stress the importance of a “nuclear family”, where a mother and father live under the same roof. The morality associated with “family values” often presumes a literal interpretation of the Bible, as well as the assumption that the family will attend church and participate in service activities, such as helping homeless people.
Perhaps their most polarizing belief is the “pro-life” assertion that abortion should be made illegal (citing Christian doctrine) and that “creationism” (God created the universe and Adam an Eve, etc.) should be taught in schools alongside evolution.
It is not easy for Asians and Europeans to understand the influence “family values” have on American politics. But there are several facts that can help put social conservatism in context. Fist, in term of sheer numbers, more than 80 percent of Americans identify themselves as Christian. One-third of these consider themselves to be “evangelical”. These may very well vote for a social conservative candidate on a Republican ticket. But one should also keep in mind that there are many types of conservatives in the US.

Moderate conservatives may care more about controlling government spending and limiting the “intrusion” of the federal government on state government than they do that abortion and school prayer. They might be registered Republicans; but they might also be “Independents”, meaning they base their vote not an party affiliation, but on the individual candidate and the issues. Therefore, it is not easy or wise to label conservative voters or make simplistic predictions about the American election. At long last, the political debate has begun in earnest and will continue until, November. It will be interesting to see how America’s diverse communicates, with their inherently pluralist belief sets, will respond to the choices they face.

Wow! Phelps wins 7th gold by slimmest marginPosted on Sat, Aug. 16, 2008
By Sports NetworkThe Sports NetworkAnd just like that Michael Phelps was there.
It doesn’t get any closer.

Trailing until a final lunge to the wall, Phelps secured his seventh gold medal of the Beijing Olympics and a spot in history when he beat Serbia’s Milorad Cavic by just .01 seconds to win the 100-meter butterfly on Saturday.

Phelps tied Mark Spitz’s record from the 1972 Munich Games of most gold medals at one Olympics, touching the wall in 50.58 seconds for a new Olympic record — the first time he’s won here without also setting a world mark.

The American-born Cavic finished at 50.59, one-hundredth of a second behind Phelps.
You can’t win by any less.

Oh Philps,Why was the Olympic Games able to inspire people greatly?

The Beijing Olymic Games has finished for a week, but I can't forget the
excitement it brought to me and to the whole world. Like many other people, I'm
not an athlete, even not a fun of athletes, but I really like so many known or
unknown athletes when I see them sweating in their contests. Not only the final
for champion, semifinal, quater-final, ..., I think every contest in Olympic Games is inspiring, exhibiting the real spirit in sports- competition.

The Olympic Games is a worldwide sports meeting pulling the first-class athletes
all over the world, so you can easily see many brilliant contests showing their
high-level performance. I like to see ball sports most, because unlike other kinds of sports, an excellent contest in ball sports comes from the good performance
of both sides. And you can imagine how exciting it is when both rivals in a match are top-level athletes! At that time, success results not only from skills, but
from personality, as well as good luck. And I think an excellent contest can
usually tell audience more than the sport itself.

The medalists in the Olympic Games not merely represent the hornor of themselves, more importantly, they represent the hornor of their nations. Every medal they
have gained contributes to the rank of their nations on the Medal List, which is
another kind of competition in the Olymic Games. You might not be able to focus
on the result of every contest in the Olymic Games, but you certainly won't miss
the everyday update of the Medal List. The name of a nation on the Medal List is a scource of pride for its people, and meanwhile it is a scource of inspiration
for its people to catch up.

I'm sure you'll be much more inspired if you have heard of the stories behind
some athletes in the Olympic Games. The story of sport genius such as Michael Phelps in
US, Isinbayeva in Russia, and Bolt in Jamaica, of a German mother athlete and her
sicked son, of an Iraq woman runner with her second-handed running shoes, etc,
all of which are moving and tell us the altitude of persistence in real life.

The Olympic Games brings to us inspirations from inside and outside of the sports
field. It shows that the spirit in sports is not limited to contests, but lies in every aspect of human life.
